Android OS does not have a trashcan. There is no one trash can that stores deleted files, unlike your Mac or PC. Depending on the design of their apps, Android apps have different trash cans. The trash cans in file management apps like Dropbox, Google Photos, File Manager, and File Manager follow similar patterns.

How do I find the trash app?

Android OS does not have a single trash app. However, it does include many apps that provide their version of a trash bin. Google Photos is one of the most important places to undelete files. Here are the Google Photos locations.

Photos and files can usually be restored up to 30 days after being deleted.

  1. Tap Photos on your Android phone.
    It could be Google Photos.
  2. Tap Library.

  3. Tap Trash.

    Due to regional differences, the icon in this screenshot reads Bin.

  4. Your deleted photos are here. You can tap on any one of them to restore it or tap the ellipsis for to empty the trashcan.

How to find trash in File Manager

A majority of Android phones have a File Manager application installed. You can also download a third-party App from the Google Play Store. This is File Manager’s location.

File Manager can be used to browse your downloaded files and other files on your smartphone.

  1. Tap File Manager on your Android phone.

  2. Tap Recently Deleted.

  3. Tap Delete all to delete all files or tap on each one to restore them.

Samsung phones have the ability to restore photos and files for up 30 days, just like other Androids.

Are Permanently Deleted Files Possible to Restore?

Generally, no. Although third-party apps claim that they can retrieve deleted files, these rarely work. These apps shouldn’t be trusted with critical files. To avoid the risk, only delete files from your phone’s trash bin or phone’s camera roll.
