  4. Go to Settings > General > Shut down.

  5. Tap the Home button on the screen.

  7. Let go of your iPhone’s screen when it returns to the home screen. If your iPhone has a passcode, it will go to the passcode entry screen. You have now successfully refreshed your iPhone.

How do I refresh my iPhone 7 or an earlier model?

It is easier to update an iPhone 7 or earlier than the newer models. These models also have a physical Home button that you can use. These steps are applicable to iPhone 4-7:

  1. Hold the Sleep/wake/Side button down until the screen goes black.

  2. You can let go of the Sleep/wake/Side key.

  3. Hold the Home button down.

  4. Let go of the Home button when you return to your home screen. Your iPhone has been updated.
