Super Strong Encryption: Tutanota
What We Like
- You can enable encryption for every message you send. However, you can turn it off if you don’t need it.
- Emails sent without encryption are stored on the Tutanota server encrypted.
- Even attachments can be encrypted automatically if encryption is disabled.
What we don’t like
- You cannot attach files in bulk. Each file must be selected and attached individually.
- It does not sync with any other mail services.
- Users will be charged an additional fee for certain features.
Tutanota, another encrypted email service, is also available. Although it doesn’t sync to existing email accounts, you can still use the account to send encrypted email or disable encryption for messages that don’t need to be sensitive. Tutanota’s password requirement to set up the application on your Android device is a very attractive feature. Tutanota, unlike other mail providers requires that users create strong passwords to set up their account. There is no risk that someone could accidentally give the bad guys access to your account by using a weak password.
img alt=”A screenshot from the Tutanota web interface to email encryption.” data-click-tracked=”true” data-expand=”300″ data-hi-res-src=”https://www.lifewire.com/thmb/VvE_zSxvKXUIEo0Pyo3f7DEzznM=/1310×0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/TutanotaDecryption-5bd25e10c9e77c005159888b.png” data-img-lightbox=”true” data-src=”https://www.lifewire.com/thmb/wwIKN0OzkizUcnMsinFxBM9yyps=/650×0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/TutanotaDecryption-5bd25e10c9e77c005159888b.png” data-tracking-container=”true”/>
Email recipients don’t have to be Tutanota members to access messages you send. The recipient must have the password that you set for the message to access the web interface.
One user can use the free account, which includes 1GB storage that is not expandable. Users with free accounts also have limited search abilities. Customers who purchase a Tutanota licence have unlimited search, inbox rules, filters, and aliases.
